Tempted to Plagarize...
After reading Michael's blog, I couldn't resist the temptation to do a little plagarizing in blog content. He was reminising over a theatre in Attalla, where he grew up. I've been pondering the old times heavily ever since I read the blog. My, my, how sweet it feels to stroll down memory lane. The old movies from the 60's-80's were fantastic. Thanks Michael for sending me back to the "good ol' days."

I took went to the pitman a lot. But.....I ALSO WENT TO THE PRINCESS. I don't know what it was abou that place, but it was really creepy to me. Maybe it was because the outside was done in a black lucite kind of material. All black.....blacker than black....I saw The Pit and The Pendulem at the Princess and had nightmares for month. it was great!

When I walked into the store across the street from the church, I was suddenly overcome by many, many memories as a young boy. The smell was just like it used to be... the popcorn, the candy, the woodened floors (very loud). I seem to remember a Pasqualies Pizza place somewhere around the Midas or the Family Savings Credit Union on Meighan/12th St.
Did you ever go to the Pit BBQ? How about Sambo's?
Pasquale's on Court Street! That is where I took Vicki on our first date. I was the big spender....A 6" Cheese pizza and two small cokes. I even remember that I played Edwin Star's "War..huh..what is it good for...abosolutely nothing" on the juke box.
I always hit the 5&10 stores when I came to Gadsden. Guys....we didn't realize how good we had it.
Saw all the James Bond movies at the Pitman. Goldfinger, Thunderball, You only Live Twice...etc.
Man! What memories!
I saw The Exorcist there. No, it wasn't a Vineyard Pastor(or attendee either) : )
Sambo's! Whew. I could tell you some bad things(funny) that happened to us there at 3am, long ago in a galaxy far far away.
I remember the name "Pick-a-Burger" but I can't remember the location. Did you ever go to the "Pit BBQ" located across from the old DayStar Church building in Alabama City?
One of mine and Lanny's first dates was at the Pasquales on Court Street. (Probably our second date. I think we went to the one on Meighan first.)
All of the theaters except the Pitman were closed by the time I moved to town. I do remember taking my classes to see Romeo and Juliet there. I also saw the original Omen there with a group of my female students. I didn't know anyone in town, and they were only a few years younger than I was. We sort of grew up together.
Well, anyway, I was so terrified after that movie that I couldn't go back to my creepy apartment in Southside. Soooooooo, one of my student's parents asked me to stay with them. I spent the night with one of my students. You know, it didn't feel weird at all back then. Of course, today I would have been crucified - oops, let me pick a better word - lynched.
Well, those are my memories of the Pitman. I also enjoyed going to the drive-ins. Remember the one on the river? My church, Trinity Lutheran, hosted sunrise service there some. There was also a drive-in in Alabama City.
The restaurant located next to Laverty's was the Toddle House.
When Vicki and I were first married we use to sit up to all hours of the night and into the morning playing scrabble. Usually we'd get the munchies and head out to the Toddle House for Hash browns and a pattie Melt. Man, now that was a meal and those were the days.
